Eczema is a chronic skin condition wherein an area of the skin becomes dry then itchy. People affected with this become disturbed making them scratch the area. The area then becomes red and thick. There are times eczema can appear as small red rashes that’s very itchy. There are lots of causes of eczema. By preventing it, you avoid those noticeable marks and free yourself from the discomfort. Eczema has no cure and frequently reoccurs. What you can do is to treat your skin right so you can make it heal faster and prevent its re-occurrence.
Hydrate and hydrate some more
This seems to be the rule for everything. But if you hydrate inside and out (with the correct lotions) and you protect your skin from things that make it become dry and vulnerable, then you’ve completed the first and most vital step to help your skin be rejuvenated and strong to fight eczema and all sorts of skin problems.
Protect your sensitive skin
Use unscented and mild cleaners and lotions on your skin and even mild cleaning agents or detergents for your clothes. Don’t bath or shower too long because you may strip the moisture from your skin, especially if you’re using bubble baths that contain soap. Use hand lotion after washing your hands. On your face, protect it from the sun to avoid irritation and excessive dryness.
Manage your stress
Stress can be physical, emotional or environmental. With physical stress, may feel like exhaustion caused by your work, school or other activities. If you suffer from Eczema, when you’re under stress you may notice your skin will start to show those red patches. To fight stress, stay well hydrated, keep a healthy diet, sleep plenty of hours in a restful environment, don’t go to sleep with the TV on and unwind before bed so you don’t carry your stress on to your sleep hours. Try including and adequate multivitamin supplementation. And exercise daily. Physical activity not only helps you manage stress, it tires your body for better sleep, helps you get rid of toxins and gives better resistance and endurance too. All this will also help you control your emotions better, and emotional stress can be affecting your body and therefore your skin problems. When you’re feeling depression, anxiety or nervousness, this can be showing your skin. Environmental factors can trigger an inflammatory process in your body and in your skin causing redness and itchiness. This might also be triggered by your allergies. Check if you’re being affected by pollution, dirt and dust, cat allergies, or even different reactions to food. When your skin reacts to these it affects your skin problems and your eczema progresses.
Avoid scratching!
Nails can be your skin’s worst enemy. Even more as you’re sleeping and you hardly even notice that you’re itching. If you scratch your eczema your condition will only be worse, more inflammation may follow on other surrounding areas, and you’re not helping your skin stay strong and hydrated. Your aggravated complexion may even go own to cause further stress or more depression, thus becoming a difficult cycle to break. If yo scratch hard enough to cause bleeding, you could have an infection and/or scars.
Shop for the right clothes
Make sure you go for fabrics that breathe, allowing your skin to stay healthier. If your skin can breathe and prevent moisture you will be better protected from by eczema, that loves moist patches. Cotton, light clothes and other fabric that allow for air flow of air and help you not sweat or accumulate oil are what you should be looking for. Identify any materials that may trigger your allergies and stay far from those. Long sleeves, light cotton can help you protect from the sun as well. And remember to wash your clothes with the right detergents.
