How BOTOX® Denver Cosmetic and Dysport® Work
These similar injectable treatments provide rejuvenating effects by temporarily relaxing the underlying muscles of your face that control functions such as squinting and furrowing the brow. When this muscle tension becomes diminished, the result is a smoother, more vibrant skin tone. The active ingredient in both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® is botulinum toxin, a protein that was first used in relieving various muscle spasms. In the early 1990s, a Canadian ophthalmologist noticed that patients with eyelid spasms who received botulinum toxin treatment were also beginning to lose their crows feet lines. By the late 1990s, the protein had become a hugely popular treatment for reducing the signs of aging, marketed as BOTOX® Cosmetic. Dysport® is another botulinum toxin-based injectable that gained Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval within the last few years. Dr. Parker can help you determine which injectable is the best choice for helping you to achieve your goals. Contact our Denver office today to learn more about BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®.
What to Expect
The process of receiving injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® is fast and painless. Dr. Parker may use a light topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort during treatment. Next, tiny amounts of the drug are injected into the areas you wish to treat. Within a few days of treatment, you will begin noticing that wrinkles and fine lines have softened, giving you a rested, refreshed appearance. You will see the full effect of the product in about 14 days. You can expect the effects of botulinum toxin to last three to four months. After that time, most patients decide to undergo additional treatments to continue enjoying the reduced signs of aging.
