Morpheus 8 is one of those devices that we expected too much from initially. After using the device for more than four years, I conclude that Morpheus, the radiofrequency microneedling device, does “more than it appears to do and less than we expect it to do.” And yes, that makes little sense.
That makes little sense to the consumer, but as a physician, I conclude that the data regarding collagen and elastin production is solid. However, the hype around tightening and near facelift results is questionable.
I now see Morpheus as a beneficial maintenance treatment that keeps skin healthy by building collagen and elastin, gives the skin a glow of vitality (secondary to elastin and hyaluronic acid increase), and does minor tightening and sculpting with small reductions in fat. The downtime is minimal, and the results are mostly under the skin. The histology or science behind Morpheus shows that the treatments build collagen and elastin, but it is difficult to see on the surface of the skin. This result is like other maintenance treatments that we use to keep our skin healthy and beautiful over time. Treatments like Thermage, Cooltouch, and microneedling.
I advise patients to do something corrective on their face and body every winter. Prejuvenation treatments like Morpheus for the younger crowd and Morpheus for those over forty pay off over time and take us into our later years looking fresh and fabulous.
