In case you missed our Sculptra Lunch and Learn

We learned a lot about Sculptra and collagen at Wednesday’s Lunch and Learn. Sculptra: Restores the Natural Volume of Your Face  and it also stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen. So let’s talk about what collagen is and how Sculptra helps your reverse the aging process.

Collagen – The Skin’s “Cement”

Elastic skin is a sign that a person has ample collagen, the strong cement-like material that binds together the cells of your body. Collagen is a structural tissue and it is replaced very slowly. It is made of fibrous protein. In fact, collagen comprises 30 percent of the total body protein. Its strong white fibers, stronger than steel wire of the same size, and yellow elastic networks, called elastin, form the connective tissue that holds our body together. Collagen strengthens the skin, blood vessels, bones, and teeth. It is the intracellular cement that holds together the cells in various organs and tissues. Collagen is one of the most valuable proteins in the human body. A person who has been sick, or who has been on an extremely low-protein diet, very often sees the muscles in his or her arms and legs begin to sag, which is a sign that they have probably lost collagen.

Layers of the skin

Over time, however, the molecular structure of collagen changes, losing its bulky structure qualities. Not only do skin cells produce less of it over time, they produce less accurate copies of it. This two-fold process is the fundamental cause of aging and its effects.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra® contains poly-L-lactic acid, a safe, synthetic material used in tissue implants and dissolvable stitches. When it is injected below the surface of the skin in an area of fat loss, Sculptra® provides a gradual increase in volume that occurs over four to six weeks. To learn whether dermal fillers such as Sculptra® are right for you, contact our Denver office today.

What is Thermage?

Thermage is another procedure we use at Lasair Aesthetic here in Denver.  Skin loses its tone and elasticity as we age, that’s where Thermage® can help you regain the youthful skin you desire. Using radio frequency technology, Thermage® builds collagen in the skin to lift drooping eyelids, tighten sagging jowls, and soften fine lines and wrinkles.
